Nancy Drew 27: The Deadly Device Hints

How do I play Aggregation?

  • 1 of 12: This is a cool little game, once you figure out how it works. At least, that's what I finally decided.
  • 2 of 12: Do you have to play it? Well, yeah, a little bit. If you want to snoop in Mason's cubicle, you have to beat his score. For amateurs, that's 22,500; for masters, that's 31,575.
  • 3 of 12: The basic goal here is to remove all the pieces from the board. When you do that, you start a new (harder) level and begin again.
  • 4 of 12: The way to remove pieces from the board is to place new pieces on the board to form groups of like colors. When you have a group of three or more of the same color piece, the group vanishes from the board.
  • 5 of 12: The first board is always the same: a single blue piece in the center of the board. Click on one of the blue pieces on the side of the board to place it against the first piece; do this again with another blue piece, and they disappear. Shazam! First board done.
  • 6 of 12: The second level is harder; there are two pieces now, one green and one yellow. Again, send green pieces to the green piece and yellows to the yellow piece to make groups of three.
  • 7 of 12: It gets harder as you go up. Sometimes you don't have any pieces that match the pieces already on the board, or you do but they're in the wrong place so you can't reach the same color pieces. If you can, place pieces as close to the other pieces as you can, and maybe you'll be able to match them later.
  • 8 of 12: The large piece at the left side of the screen is labeled "Next," and it tells you what color the next piece will be. This piece will appear at whatever location you next shoot from. That is, if you shoot from the top, that "Next" piece will be on the top; if you shoot from the bottom, it'll be on the bottom.
  • 9 of 12: So if you see that the "Next" piece is one you really need to come from the top, shoot the current top piece first so you'll have the "Next" piece in the right location. See?
  • 10 of 12: As you progress, you'll start to see special pieces, like a star that matches any color piece and a bomb that blows up everything it touches. You'll also come across pieces that have to be matched twice, walls, pieces that make more pieces if you don't get rid of them, and other nasty surprises. Click on the ? on the screen to find out more about these pieces.
  • 11 of 12: If you save the entire "Deadly Device" game in the middle of a game of Aggregation, it will remember what level you're on; however, when you reload, it'll put you back at the beginning of that level. If you have Nancy quit Aggregation in the middle of a game and go do something else, when you come back you'll be back at level 1.
  • 12 of 12: Amateurs will probably need to make it past level 6 or so, while masters will need to get at least to level 10. There are 25 levels total, but you can stop as soon as you beat Mason's score at least once.
