Nancy Drew 27: The Deadly Device Hints
Should I power up the coil? How?
of 9: You can try to do this as soon as you unlock the control booth --
of 9: Inside the booth, there's a beige steno pad on the right. It has Ellie's instructions on how to turn on the coil. The controls are in the center of the desk.
of 9: Basically, the procedure is to flip the switches left to right to start the coil (Initial Power, then Charge, then Engage). If the coil is functioning, you can then look up to see the effect.
of 9: To turn it off, reverse the process: flip the switches right to left (Engage, then Charge, then Initial Power).
of 9: The first time you do this, you'll have to contend with a temper tantrum, as mentioned above. After that, however, you can mess around with it to your heart's content and they won't bother you again.
of 9: If you want to change the power level -- High and Low are the only options -- pull the switch at the right before you start the process. Nancy won't let you change the power level while the coil is on.
of 9: You can also raise and lower the lightning rod. The only time this will make a difference is during a high-level test. You might want to remember that for future reference, BTW.
of 9: One other thing you should notice is that a low-level test (a) produces a lovely bluish glow and (b) is completely safe to walk around under.
