Nancy Drew 29: The Silent Spy Hints
How do I get into the "safe behind the breaker"?
of 12: Moira was talking pretty fast; what she said was, "There's a safe behind the breaker. Look under the teapot. Follow what you find to the safe house."
of 12: In this case, "breaker" refers to circuit breakers, the modern-day equivalent of a fuse box. It's in the closet where you were hiding.
of 12: If you go click on the breakers now, Nancy says she needs to find the information Moira hid under the teapot first. So let's go take a closer look at the teapot on the bookshelf.
of 12: There's a piece of masking tape on the bottom of the teapot with a number written on it (185 for Amateurs, 164 for Masters), and Nancy says, "This must be the number Moira referenced for the fuses." Not sure how she figured that out from what Moira said, but hey, she's the detective. If you now go back to the breaker box --
of 12: -- Nancy says, "I need to flip the fuses to equal the number from the teapot." Read to the end of this hint to see one way to do this.
of 12: What's going on here is that each of the breaker switches has a different number. Your goal is to flip just the right switches to make the display at the bottom show the number from the teapot.
of 12: The obvious way to get started on this is to flip each switch individually to find out what its number is. Note that some of the numbers are negative -- that is, you subtract them from the total rather than adding them.
of 12: With this many switches, there are lots of different ways to reach the right number. You might solve this one on your own just by playing around.
of 12: For example, you might turn on all the highest positive switches, then flip the negative ones till you come back down to the right number.
of 12: But if you're tired of the fuss and you just want to move on, here are the switches I flipped to get there:
of 12: Inside the safe, you'll find three things: a key labeled "Loch Lomond Retreat" (which Nancy mispronounces and says must be for the safe house), a manila folder labeled "Letters" in your inventory, and a locked box.
of 12: Read through the letters in the folder, wonder at the box, and let's go to Loch Lomond.
