The person Kate refers to as "the Scientist" is the biochemist who developed the virus Revenant plans to use for their horrible Colony plot. Kate managed to get him into hiding, and the reason Revenant and everyone else has been chasing Nancy is that Kate left the specifics of how to reach him in a code only Nancy could crack. Yikes!
