Nancy Drew 30: The Shattered Medallion Hints
How do I turn on the lights in the cave?
of 8: See the box to the left of the door? That's the power box.
of 8: Open it to find -- what a surprise, a confusing puzzle. Naturally. I'm sure New Zealanders never just use circuit breakers like the rest of the world. Sorry, sorry; I mean oh, what fun, a puzzle! Read to the end of this hint for a screenshot showing how to solve it.
of 8: The general idea here is that you want to get every section of the grid lit up. The way you light up a section is to move one of the little circles to that section.
of 8: The problem is that each circle will only move a specified number of spaces from its starting point, as shown by the number of orange dots in that circle. A circle with two orange dots will only move to locations that are two spaces away, for example.
of 8: When you click on a circle, it will show you the possible moves it can make. Click on one of those circles to move it, and the section it lands in will light up. If you change your mind, click on the starting circle again, and it will move back to where it started.
of 8: A little playing around will show you the problem here. There are lots and lots of different ways to arrange those circles, but many of the places where they can go make it impossible for other circles to move. If you find yourself in that position, retract the offending circles and try something else.
of 8: It's sometimes helpful to start with squares that can only be lit by one circle, if there are any. You might also find it helpful to place one of the longest circles, then build the others around it.
of 8: There may be other solutions, but here's one way. Note that in my picture, the dark circle shows where the circle was when it started.
