Nancy Drew 30: The Shattered Medallion Hints
How do I do my special "turtle" quest?
of 18: When you're in the woolshed about to start labeling sheep, you'll get a call from Bess giving you a special quest from Sonny. And that quest is --
of 18: -- well, all Bess says is "Turtle." Man, what has that girl been smoking?
of 18: You need more information than that. The next time you return to base, ask Sonny for more information.
of 18: Sonny gives you some comic pages and the rest of the sentence. Okay, *some* help.
of 18: The "very special message" from the show that Sonny mentioned just tells you this quest is worth 70 points. Well, that's nice, but it's no help. Now where have you seen a turtle recently?
of 18: Oh, yes, there was one in the underwater observatory, wasn't there? Let's go there.
of 18: Look closely at the turtle to see that it has some odd white dots on its back. Do they look familiar? Check out the comic Sonny just gave you for help here.
of 18: The significant thing is on the fourth page, where the old turtle says that whales like to chew Blubba Gum. Notice the odd shape of the letters, which are very large compared to the rest of the writing.
of 18: In fact, that's what the dots on the turtle are supposed to spell out. See it now?
of 18: Click on one of the dots, then on the next dot, and it draws a line between those two dots. Repeat until the letters look the same as they do in the comic. If you put a wrong line in, click on it again to erase it.
of 18: Or if you get it all messed up and just want to start over, back away and click on it again to reset the puzzle.
of 18: At any rate, here's what it should look like when it's done:
of 18: When you have it just right, the turtle's mouth will open to reveal an odd poem. Does any part of it sound familiar?
of 18: If you explored every part of the underwater world, you may have noticed one spot that was red and black. (It's marked on the map I've made here with an X.)
of 18: Okay, *now* take the sub down to that spot and reach into the black hole among the red coral. (The altitude lever should be in the middle, in case it's not obvious.) This gains you --
of 18: -- a relic you won't use until the end of the game. But first, the emergency alarm goes off! You only have one minute real time to get back to the surface, but it's not hard to do --
of 18: -- just follow the map and go left, forward, forward, right, forward, left, forward, right, forward, and you're out.
