The Mystery of the Nautilus Hints
Inventory
The inventory (i.e., items that you may have picked up and are carrying) in "The Mystery of the Nautilus" is crucial to solving the various puzzles throughout the game. Any items you are carrying will be stored in your backpack.
Using inventory items in "The Mystery of the Nautilus" is actually quite simple. When you are in a location that can interact with an inventory item you are carrying, the cursor will change to a "working hand", to indicate such. You can then click on your backpack to open your inventory, select an item, and attempt to use it (normally by clicking) on the appropriate location on the screen.
Only three inventory items will display at a time. To access the remaining inventory items, use the arrows just over and under the inventory items to scroll up and down through your inventory.
It is also possible for your character to wear an item. To put an item on your character, select the item from your inventory and place it on the icon of your character (located under your inventory items).
Note that it is sometimes difficult to find or pick up inventory items -- especially items that are very small. It is helpful to remember that the entire cursor is not always active. For help in locating small items, make sure to use the top left corner of the cursor when investigating a potential inventory item.
