The Mystery of the Nautilus Hints
Saving games
You can die in "The Mystery of the Nautilus" -- in many places, and in many ways. And unlike some other games, there is no automatic replay that allows you to avoid the last step that killed you, or to back up just prior to the action that resulted in your death.
As a result, you should save games whenever you are about to enter a new area or try something that could be either dangerous or have unknown results. There is a limit of 8 saved games at any one time. Choose the points at which you save games wisely. It might even be a good idea to reserve one of the saved game slots specifically for "temporary" saves -- that is, saves which are just short-term (such as before doing something potentially dangerous), and which may be freely overwritten later.
