2 of 8: If there were just some way to get the stairs out of the way...
3 of 8: Perhaps you could "retract" the stairs in some way.
4 of 8: Look around where you are standing.
5 of 8: There is a lever on the wall.
6 of 8: The lever controls the stairs.
7 of 8: Lower the lever to close the stairs (and gain access to the far door).
8 of 8: Raise the lever again if you need to descend the stairs.
