Nancy Drew 11: Curse of Blackmoor Manor Hints
What am I supposed to do with the automaton?
of 14: There's a book nearby that will help. Look in the only book in this room that was printed instead of being handwritten. It's on the workbench to the right of the forge.
of 14: This is Aeolus, the master of the winds, and you need to help him catch the four winds. His controls are located in a far corner of this room. Go to the keyhole and turn left.
of 14: To start the game, push the red button. This sends Aeolus to the center square and releases the four winds. This game works differently in the DVD version, of course:
of 14: Your goal now is to jump Aeolus into a square occupied by each wind until you have all four of them. Use the arrows above to move him around; the larger arrow moves him two squares at once.
of 14: To make this more difficult, the winds are blowing all the time. If you're in the same row or column as one of them, they'll blow you as far as you can go.
of 14: Also, you need to avoid the squares with the patterns; those are pits, and if you get pushed into a pit you go back to the beginning and have to start over.
of 14: The winds move in random patterns, so I can't tell you the exact moves to make. But you'll start to see some strategy after you've played for a while. Here are some hints:
of 14: -- When moving across the middle of the board, stick to the squares where the pits are at the corners rather than at the sides or top. This way you can't be blown into a pit.
of 14: -- The order you catch them doesn't matter, but some are easier to catch than others. I find North fairly easy because South can only blow you one square away.
of 14: -- To catch North, work your way to the top of the grid, then bounce back and forth between the two free squares until North foolishly moves into the space below you.
of 14: -- To catch East, stay at the top of the grid and drop onto him when he occupies the square two from the top.
of 14: -- To catch West, either repeat the process you did for East or go into the large section at the left and wait for him to come in range. This is easier after East has been caught so you don't get blown into tomorrow.
of 14: -- South is the hardest to catch because you can't get behind him. Wait till all the others are caught, then work your way down to the bottom row. Then bounce back and forth between the two free squares until he falls into your hands.
of 14: When you've caught all four winds, you'll hear air hissing. Congratulations! The forge now has air.
