Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock Hints

How do I play golf?

  • 1 of 6: First you need a club, a ball, and a scorecard. Go to the large machine and look for a coin slot.
  • 2 of 6: Drop in your dime and take the scorecard, then move left and push the big brass button to get ball and club. Now go in the gate at the right (it says "PLAY GOLF" on it) to start playing. Note: You can only save your game in between holes, when you're looking at the scorecard.
  • 3 of 6: Click on hole 1 to go there. Place your ball somewhere on the green teeing spot, then move the club behind it. Notice that as you pull the club back, as if you were going to hit the ball, you can see a line of ghostly balls showing where your ball will go when you hit it. The farther away from the ball you get, the harder you'll hit it and the farther the ball will go. Click when you're ready to hit the ball, and see what happens.
  • 4 of 6: In case you've never played miniature golf before, the goal is to get the ball into the hole with the smallest number of strokes you can. "Par" is the number listed next to each hole and is the smallest number Josiah thought you needed to do each hole.
  • 5 of 6: Play for fun as much as you like. Eventually, however, you're going to want to try to get a score under par for the course (that's 30 for Junior Detectives and 21 for Senior Detectives). To do that, plot out each move before you swing. It's also a good idea to save after a hole when you do well; that way, if you muff the next hole, you can load in the saved game and do just that hole over again instead of the whole thing.
  • 6 of 6: If you want to play again, put your used scorecard in the slot under the coin slot in the display, then put in another dime to get a new scorecard and go for it. If you just finished playing, you don't need to get a new club and ball; check your inventory to see if you have one.
