Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock Hints
So who was the bad guy really?
1 of 4: Again, the material in this question assumes you know whodunnit and have finished the game. Don't read on unless you already know who the bad guy is!
2 of 4: There's a letter in the drawer in Emily's room that gives a clue about the real name of the woman calling herself Jane Willoughby.
3 of 4: Her real name is Marion Aborn, and she was a coworker of the real Jane. When Emily wrote to Jane after her mother's death, Marion got the letter first and decided to pretend she was Jane. Her intention was to make Emily sell the inn and take half the money, besides grabbing the jewelry and anything else she could find that she could make a buck out of.
4 of 4: That's why Jane/Marion was using the secret passage to make the pictures move and whisper things to Emily: she was trying make her think she was losing her mind and couldn't possibly run the inn, so she'd give up and sell it. Jane/Marion was pushing so hard because she only had until Emily turned 18 in a few months, and after that she wouldn't get a penny. A totally unscrupulous and greedy woman.
