Nancy Drew: The Secret of the Old Clock Hints

How does the sewing machine work?

  • 1 of 8: Just put a needle in and move the cloth around.
  • 2 of 8: First, of course, you need cloth and needle.
  • 3 of 8: The cloth you'll get when you try to use the safe deposit box key you'll find.
  • 4 of 8: As for the needle, ask Emily about it, and she'll tell you whom to ask.
  • 5 of 8: Once you have both needle and cloth, put the needle in the machine and click the cloth on it to start sewing. Click and drag the cloth to move it under the needle and sew away.
  • 6 of 8: Your aim here is to keep as close as possible to the white basting stitches; Junior detectives can stray more than Senior detectives, but you both have to keep within shouting distance of the white stitches or Nancy will make you start over. (Don't start over unless Nancy says something like, "Would I wear something like this? No." You can make a lot more mistakes than you'd want to in real life.)
  • 7 of 8: Cautious, careful and slow will do better than fast and furious. Unfortunately, the sewing machine only has one speed, so the only way to be careful is to keep stopping -- sew a bit, then stop when you see a curve coming up, adjust and sew again.
  • 8 of 8: If you really can't make any headway at all, try this: Every time you do a bit right, stop and save. That way you don't have to start from the beginning if you mess it up.
