How do I open the 4-number safe behind the grill?

  • 1 of 11: As Nancy says, there are 10,000 different possible combinations here. There's no point in fussing with it till you know the right numbers. (And if you cheated and you do know them, don't bother; they won't work till you've gotten to the point where the game tells you what they are.)
  • 2 of 11: The answer to this problem is mentioned in Jake's letter ("As for my beloved Camille ... ").
  • 3 of 11: So you won't get the combination till you've been to Copper Gorge and explored Camille's Crypt.
  • 4 of 11: When you've been to the crypt and made a rubbing of the four columns, you now have four words. So what?
  • 5 of 11: Remember the sampler book in Camille's Car?
  • 6 of 11: Look up those four words and find the symbols for them --
  • 7 of 11: -- then look up those four symbols on the sampler to find out the numbers for them.
  • 8 of 11: Now you need to figure out the order of the numbers. Look at the safe behind the grill again. Do the four shapes on the lid look familiar?
  • 9 of 11: They're showing the four patterns on the rubbings you made, the four parts of the circle.
  • 10 of 11: Use the number for that part of the pattern in that spot. The final combination is:
