Nancy Drew: The Creature of Kapu Cave Hints
How do I fertilize these plants?
of 8: The second time you come looking for equipment, Dr. Craven will ask you to fertilize some plants for him. And again, the first difficulty is finding the stinking things.
of 8: Go to the bottom of the steps and turn right; take two steps forward, then turn right again. The plants you're looking for are inside the large cabinet to the right. (You can go up the stairs into the little room and play with stuff if you want, but it's for the fun of it only.)
of 8: Insert the key and turn it, then zoom in on the plants. To fertilize the plants, pick one of the colored knobs at top to select a specific fertilizer, then push the large green button at the right to dispense it.
of 8: As you'll see when you do this, the different fertilizers have a different effect on the different plants. For example, the green fertilizer (the first knob) makes the second plant grow and the fourth plant wilt and doesn't do anything to the others. So the trick here is to hit on the right combination to make all the plants bloom. Read to the end of this hint for specific instructions on how to do this.
of 8: There are lots of ways to get where you need to be. Notice, for example, that each plant has two bloom stages: one where it's just a flower and one where it's a very happy flower. You can use this to your advantage; if you make a plant go to the very happy stage, then use a fertilizer that blooms another one but wilts this one down one step, you'll still get credit for having fertilized it.
of 8: You can map the effects of the different fertilizers and figure out a way to get all five flowers blooming at once --
of 8: -- but here's how I did it:
of 8: Dispense the fertilizers in this order: -- Turquoise (#2 knob) -- Turquoise (#2) -- Pink (#5) -- Blue (#3)
