Shouldn't that be "shaved ice," not "shave ice"?

  • Well, that would be grammatically correct, yes. But in Hawai'i, they call it shave ice, and that's just its name. So shave ice it is, and the language nuts among us wince a little and ask for ice cream instead. (Which was originally called "iced cream," if you want to get technical, but let's not quibble.)
