Nancy Drew: The White Wolf of Icicle Creek Hints
How do I do the cooking?
of 13: Remember when Frank Hardy made hamburgers in "Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon"? This is pretty much the same thing, but more complicated. Read to the end of this hint for a more complete breakdown of the process, including screenshots of the different meals.
of 13: Breakfast is served from 7 to 8:15 a.m., lunch from noon to 1 p.m., and dinner from 6 to 7 p.m. Keep track of the time so you don't miss a meal. You won't get fired if you do, but Chantal will track you down and make you cook anyway, so save yourself the trouble and go quietly.
of 13: When it's time for a meal to start, go downstairs, turn right, go past the door to the basement, and turn right again to find the large double doors to the dining room. You can only go in when it's time to cook, which for some strange reason is usually 1 minute after the mealtime starts -- 6:00 p.m. is no good, but 6:01 p.m. is fine.
of 13: On the top of the counter, there's one covered dish with an order for every person you need to cook for, which is the four guests plus Ollie and Freddie. All the ingredients and equipment you need are on the counter in front of you, including a cookbook that gives you a general rundown of the process.
of 13: To get started, click on the first plate and see what that person ordered. Make each thing they asked for and click it on their plate to put it in there. When you think that order is ready, click on the box on the order form marked "Order Complete." If you got it right, Nancy says, "Order up!" and the plate disappears. If you got something wrong, Ollie tells you to do it over.
of 13: When frying things, place the pieces on the griddle or in the pan and watch them carefully. (Omelettes and quesadillas go in the pans; everything else goes on the griddle.)
of 13: Some things cook very quickly, and if you don't take them off the heat fast they'll burn. If you're not careful they'll even catch fire, which is Bad. Don't cook more than about two or three pieces of anything at the same time because you can't get them off the heat and onto the plate fast enough.
of 13: When putting toppings on things (like lettuce and pickles on the burgers), click on the topping, then click it on the dish once for each thing the guest wanted. When you're done with a topping, either click on the same topping again to put it down, or click on the next topping to pick it up.
of 13: It's hard to keep track of the various toppings each guest wants, but you're helped by the fact that they're listed in the same order they appear on the counter. This makes it easy to just say or write down the toppings a guest wants by number. For example, if a guest wants an omelette with 2 bacon, 1 spinach, 3 cheese, no peppers, and 1 olive, that would be 2-1-3-0-1. See?
of 13: If you get something wrong, put it in the garbage chute at right and start over. The supplies never run out, and the cooked stuff never gets cold, so take your time and don't panic. If you're not sure what you've done yet, click on the plates to see.
of 13: There are a couple of ways to fill the orders -- for example, at lunch you could do all the burgers first and then do all the quesadillas -- but the one that prevents the most errors is to do one order at a time. Try a couple of things and see what works for you.
of 13: Since the three meals have differences in menu, here are more specific directions:
