How do I decipher the coded stuff?
1 of 6: If you're playing as a junior detective, you can get an explicit hint on this from Tino, so give him a call. Read all the way to the bottom of this hint for the actual translations.
2 of 6: What Tino says is that the lines are in what he calls a railroad cipher. In each collection of two lines, read the first letter of the first line, then the first letter of the second line, then the second letter of the first line, and so on.
3 of 6: So if you wanted to send someone the message, "I love spaghetti!" you'd write it like this
I O E P G E T ! L V S A H T I And then if you take out the spaces, it looks like this:
IOEPGET! LVSAHTI -- which is much harder to read and looks really mysterious and complicated. See?
4 of 6: So now you can translate Trapper Dan's journal! You do have to be careful, though, since his spacing is kind of out of whack.
