Nancy Drew: Message in a Haunted Mansion Hints

How can I fix the dining room floor tiles?

  • 1 of 10: If you haven't found this inlay puzzle, look in the dining room behind Rose's chair.  Click on the floor.
  • 2 of 10: Your tiles consist of 1 large triangle, 6 small triangles, 1 square, and 1 parallelogram.  Two pieces have been placed for you and cannot be moved: a square and a parallelogram.  Your object is to insert the tiles in the space provided, matching them up with the two that are already glued down.
  • 3 of 10: Backing away from the puzzle resets it.  Left click on a piece on the right side of the screen to pick it up.  To turn a piece around, left click to pick it up and right click while it is in mid air.
  • 4 of 10: While placing the tiles, it can be a bit tricky.  There can be no white space around or in between them.  The piece will turn a lighter shade of brown when you have it in the right spot.
  • 5 of 10: It is important to match up the pattern.  Did you see that the grain of the wood runs diagonally from top left to bottom right?
  • 6 of 10: So should the wood grain on your pieces.
  • 7 of 10: Of the 6 small triangles, two are very similar with an odd-shaped design.  One of those goes at the very top.  The other matches the left edge of the stationary parallelogram and goes to the bottom right of the stationary square.
  • 8 of 10: Place the large triangle to the right of the stationary parallelogram, turning it to fit.
  • 9 of 10: Your parallelogram-shaped tile goes at the very bottom left.
  • 10 of 10: If you are still having trouble, the below picture shows the completed puzzle with the most prominent grain lines drawn in.
