Nancy Drew: Treasure in the Royal Tower Hints
I need help with the chain puzzle!
of 8: The object of this puzzle is to adjust the length of the five chains to match a specific pattern. If you back away from it, the puzzle starts over from the beginning.
of 8: The pattern to copy is shown on the opposite wall in blocks. The center one is highest, and the side ones stagger down in length, with the outside chains in the lowest position.
of 8: What makes it more difficult is that when you move one, another one moves too.
of 8: If you number the chains from left to right from 1 through 5, here is what others move when you click on each chain. No. 1 pulls No. 4 -- No. 2 moves No. 1 -- No. 3 affects No. 2 -- No. 4 moves alone -- No. 5 also pulls No. 1.
of 8: Since No. 4 moves nothing but itself, it doesn't matter what happens to it. You'll be able to move it in the desired spot last.
of 8: Using trial and error, it shouldn't take you long to do this puzzle. I'm sure there are uncountable ways to solve it.
of 8: One solution is in the next hint.
of 8: Numbering left to right from 1 to 5, click on the chains in this order: 5, 5, 3, 2, 2, 1, 4, 4. If this doesn't work, back away from the puzzle to restart it and then try it again.
