Nancy Drew: Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake Hints
How do I fire up the motorboat?
of 16: The boat is full of water; it needs to be bailed out.
of 16: Take the life jacket and wear it. (As long as the life jacket appears in your inventory, you are wearing it.) Make sure you are wearing your lifejacket in the motorboat, otherwise you could drown (unless you want to save your game first, to see what will happen).
of 16: Try starting the motor by pulling on the starter.
of 16: Apparently the motor Sally purchased is not functioning presently. You might need to open the hood of the motor and investigate.
of 16: Ah, the spark plug is missing. You'll need a new one.
of 16: After you install the new spark plug, you're still not ready to fire up the motorboat yet. (Just for fun: save your game, pull the starter a couple of times, and see what happens!) You should examine the motor closely to determine how you should proceed.
of 16: Don't overlook the motor's hood. A diagram has been drawn there. It refers to parts of the motor and indicates what you should do.
of 16: Notice how the diagram includes four symbols: a plus (top left), a zero (top right), a minus (bottom left), and a plus (bottom right). Notice how the motor has four pistons: one in the top left, one in the top right, one in the bottom left, and one in the bottom right.
of 16: Examine each of the four pistons closely.
of 16: Notice each piston has three starting positions: above the center, at the centerline, and below the center.
of 16: You must move the four pistons to their proper starting position above the center, at the centerline, or below the center. The diagram indicates each piston's starting position.
of 16: In the diagram, a plus means above the center, a zero means at the centerline, and a minus means below the center.
of 16: However, you "need some torque" in order to move the pistons. That means you need to use an object on the pistons in order to move them.
of 16: You need the screwdriver. You found it when you bailed out the boat, so it should be in your inventory.
of 16: Using the screwdriver, set the pistons of the motor as follows: above the center (top left), at the centerline (top right), below the center (bottom left), and above the center (bottom right). Close the hood, and then pull the starter.
of 16: Make sure you have set the pistons correctly before trying to fire up the motorboat, otherwise you could be seriously hurt (unless you want to save your game first, to see what will happen).
