Nancy Drew: The Haunted Carousel Hints
Game Advice
Here are some things to remember while playing the game:
1) Keep a pad of paper handy, for occasionally you will want to take notes. Write down any facts that seem important. Sometimes you may wish to draw a map. Draw special designs you think might be important. Often, you will reach a point in the game when you must refer to your notes in order to proceed. Note taking can make the difference between an enjoyable game and a less-enjoyable one.
2) Consult Nancy's notes in her laptop computer often. When Nancy returns to her hotel she will be doing a little note taking herself, so it helps to read these notes to learn what she has observed and concluded.
3) Save your game often, especially before and after solving a puzzle. It's a good idea to save at the end of a "chapter" -- a point in the game that you decide marks the conclusion of a large group of solved puzzles that you would hate to have to repeat. Then, avoid overwriting that saved game in case you need to return to it, but instead save the next chapter in the next saved game slot. In addition to the chapter saved games, you could even consider reserving one saved game slot for a temporary "bookmark", constantly overwriting this one as you progress through the game. You may keep more saved games than the number of slots that fit on the screen, for as the slots fill up you are allowed to scroll up and down through the list. Remember, if you make a mistake, you can choose "Second Chance" from the menu, and the game will return you to a safe point immediately before the mistake was made.
4) Examine every room carefully, always determining which moves are possible (step forward, turn around, go left, go right, go up, or go down) and which areas of the room can be examined for a closer look. Pick up all loose objects (anything that isn't "nailed down"), as you will surely discover the use for them. Many objects in the game can be examined closely, and some of these cannot be examined in their entirety at first glance; you must scroll down their length or flip through their pages.
5) Ask all of the questions you can when talking with someone. Return to ask them questions again until they have nothing more to say. Try to ask questions that do not give away information you may wish to conceal, for you are trying to gain information from them, not necessarily the other way around. Try to be tactful, and avoid questions that might offend. Choose your questions carefully; often one interrogation path will exclude you from asking questions of some other topic. Characters can usually be found in the general vicinity where you originally meet them. Other characters can only be found on the telephone. You can get some answers and even game hints from Nancy's friends, too.
6) Some puzzles in the game require you to type in your answers using your keyboard, and hit enter at the end of each answer. You will know immediately if your answer is correct.
7) If nothing new seems to happening, go talk to everyone one more time; they may have something new to say. Return to all the locations in the game to see if anything new has been added. Finally, return to your hotel to take notes and have a meal, and then begin your explorations again.
8) If you think you might be experiencing a bug in the program, be sure to check the Her Interactive Technical Support web site (go to http://www.herinteractive.com and click on Tech Support) to see if what you are experiencing is a bug, and if so, if a bug fix is available.
