Nancy Drew: The Haunted Carousel Hints

Where does the trap door Spook Number 10 is pointing to go?

  • 1 of 16: Enter the trap door, and see where it goes...
  • 2 of 16: It leads to another stairway, and you see a beautiful, black carousel horse waiting at the bottom of the stairs.  That must be Glory, left here by Darryl Trent for his daughter Joy.
  • 3 of 16: As you take a few steps, the stairway collapses, sending you to the bottom!  You're all right, but you won't be able to leave by this stairway.  Your fall knocks over Glory, which breaks open and sends jewelry flying.  So, the jewel thief hid the rest of the stolen jewels in this carousel horse decades ago, when it was still installed on the carousel!  Then, it must have been sold to Joy's mother immediately after that.  Neither the jewel thief nor the police were able to recover the jewels.  No one alive even knows Glory's location -- until now.
  • 4 of 16: You decide to keep the jewels safe, so you can give them to the police.
  • 5 of 16: You find a letter to Joy, from her father.  In it, he encloses the only photograph of Joy's mother in existence, after the young Joy destroyed all others.  In it, he explains that he couldn't give her this photo until he knew Joy was ready, and he expresses his hope that Joy would remember how much she loved her mother, and explains how much her mother and father loved her.
  • 6 of 16: He adds in a postscript that if Joy wants to see where Glory was carved, you should look for Kessler's symbol on the wall.  You remember from the carousel book that Kessler's symbol is a black rose.  Do you see it here?
  • 7 of 16: The black rose symbol is on the wall right next to you.  When you push it, a door opens.
  • 8 of 16: You seem to have entered a secret door to Kessler's workshop!  The secret door closes without a trace; the main door is on the opposite side of the room.  And what do you have here... that's Nightshade, the stolen lead horse from the carousel, and here's several reproductions of it!  And what do you have here at the computer?  Apparently someone is negotiating with collectors on the black market!
  • 9 of 16: Now that you've seen all this evidence, it's time to go tell the police.  You open the door...
  • 10 of 16: Gasp!  There's the villain!
  • 11 of 16: The villain will get you if you don't think clearly and do something.
  • 12 of 16: Did you read your latest email from Sassy Detective?
  • 13 of 16: Throw the jewels you are carrying at the villain's face.  This distracts the villain long enough for you to get away.  Run!
  • 14 of 16: As you dash up the stairs, you recognize the empty room where the booby trap was earlier.  Hurry, the villain is right behind you!
  • 15 of 16: You're trapped in the main room of the haunted house.  Should you try to escape?
  • 16 of 16: Remove the brass ring from the spook.  This will bring the sign back up to the ceiling -- striking the villain on the way and knocking them into the collapsed stairway.  The villain can chill there while you call the police.  Good job, Nancy Drew!
