How do I open the iron cover in the study?

  • 1 of 15: The opening in the outside of the iron cover would indicate that a key is needed.
  • 2 of 15: Look around the study carefully for a clue as to where to find the appropriate key.
  • 3 of 15: Take the journal from the desk and read it (you'll need to right-click on it from inside the inventory).
  • 4 of 15: The final page states that the key to the safe was dropped down the drain.
  • 5 of 15: The drain isn't in this room -- it's in another room in the tunnels.
  • 6 of 15: The trick will be to retrieve the key from under the drain.  Your hands won't fit inside.
  • 7 of 15: You won't be able to lift the grate over the drain -- you'll need to figure out a way to get the key out like it is.
  • 8 of 15: It might be helpful to know that the key is made mostly from iron.
  • 9 of 15: A magnet could help you get the key out.
  • 10 of 15: The magnet by itself won't be very helpful.  You'll need to figure out how to get it under the grate and back out again.
  • 11 of 15: It is a "strange magnet".  Try looking at it in your inventory.
  • 12 of 15: The hole in the middle of the magnet could be helpful...
  • 13 of 15: ... to tie it to a string.  You should still have some string in your inventory (that was taken from the toolbox earlier).
  • 14 of 15: Once you have tied the magnet to the string, you can use the "magnet on a string" on the grate to retrieve the key.  Note: If you've done everything described, but you cannot use the "magnet on a string", be sure to look at the drain first (with nothing else in hand).
  • 15 of 15: Use the key on the iron cover to reveal a safe inside.
