How do I get past the guard?

  • 1 of 13: Be sure to go inside the archives and talk to the guard.  Martin needs to know about the problem in order to proceed with the solution.
  • 2 of 13: Besides being able to go inside the archives, there are four locations to visit outside of the Center City Archive building. The four locations outside the archive building are as follows: the location where you first started this area, a close-up scene immediately outside the building (with a man sitting on a park bench), plus two others further away from the building. Hold the tab key to locate the exits from each screen.
  • 3 of 13: The man just outside the archives building might be able to help you get inside -- but you will first need to get his attention.
  • 4 of 13: Talking to him doesn't seem to help.  He is partly deaf -- and so focused on the birds that he doesn't notice that Martin wants to talk to him. 
  • 5 of 13: You'll need to find something nearby to help Martin get his attention.
  • 6 of 13: Firecrackers by themselves won't be very useful.
  • 7 of 13: You will need some matches to light them. 
  • 8 of 13: To use the firecrackers, you will NOT need to light them with the matches first.  Simply select the firecrackers and use them on the man -- Martin will take care of the rest.
  • 9 of 13: Even when you know what to do with the firecrackers, it will still be necessary to attempt to speak with the man twice.
  • 10 of 13: It is also be necessary to speak to the guard inside the building again (a total of two times) before Martin will use the firecrackers.
  • 11 of 13: Once you have successfully used the firecrackers and gotten the man's attention, you will need to speak to him again.  He will tell you what he wants from you before he will help you.
  • 12 of 13: The man will tell you that he will help you if you will get him a bottle of wine.
  • 13 of 13: Give the wine bottle to the man outside the archives.  He will give you an old I.D. card that you can give to the guard inside.  When the guard sees the I.D. card, he will let Martin inside.
