Nine: The Last Resort Hints

How do I beat this puzzle?

  • 1 of 12: You must shoot the little targets to light up all the colored lights in the room.
  • 2 of 12: The targets will move a little faster with each "round."
  • 3 of 12: The music will become more frantic and the rat wheel will spin around to let you know when you have progressed to the "next round."
  • 4 of 12: There are about five rounds to this game.
  • 5 of 12: When you shoot enough targets to light all the lights, you will have beaten the puzzle and will be allowed access to the room and hall beyond.
  • 6 of 12: It is most important to eliminate each big rat that appears from the rat hole.  You do not have a time limit for shooting the targets, so concentrate on the big rats when they appear.
  • 7 of 12: The puzzle is over and must be replayed from the beginning if a big rat reaches your position before you kill it.
  • 8 of 12: This is one of the harder puzzles in Nine.  It is sometimes helpful to have a second person watch the rat hole and warn you of approaching big rats while you are shooting the targets.
  • 9 of 12: I found that the biggest difficulty was becoming so engaged with the target shooting that you do not see a big rat coming toward you until it is too late to fire off enough shots to kill it.
  • 10 of 12: If you are having trouble with this puzzle, see below for a cheat to give you a weapons upgrade.
  • 11 of 12: Press the "CONTROL" key as you are reloading the gun to upgrade your pistol to a machine gun.
  • 12 of 12: Note that after you reload, you must successfully shoot a TARGET (not a big rat) before the machine gun upgrade will take effect.
