Nine: The Last Resort Hints
How do I solve the ratchet wheel puzzle?
of 12: First you should note that one of the wheels appears to be missing.
of 12: You will not be able to solve this puzzle until you locate the missing wheel and bring it here.
of 12: Once you have all four wheels, you must orient them in the center position such that all 12 dots show pink.
of 12: This puzzle is one of the harder ones in Nine, and it changes from game to game, but there are a couple of strategies that you can use to solve it.
of 12: First of all, note that the total number of pink dots available when all four wheels are counted is twelve, the exact number you need to have showing at the end.
of 12: So, it is important not to cover up any pink dots showing on a wheel that you have already placed (you need them all to show through.)
of 12: Since all 12 dots need to be seen, try to place the wheel with the fewest open and pink dots on the bottom, and the wheel with the most open (or pink) dots on top.
of 12: Starting with the bottom wheel (fewest open dots), keep adding wheels and turning them one at a time so that ALL the pink dots from each of the previous wheels show through. The top wheel will be the one with ALL 12 holes either open or pink.
of 12: In my game, the order of the wheels from bottom to top was: green, silver, rust, gold.
of 12: When you get the puzzle solved, you should hear a grinding creaking noise.
of 12: When you look up, the skull mouth will be ajar.
of 12: You can now enter a new room through this opening.
