Nine: The Last Resort Hints

Round 5

  • 1 of 27: This is the final round of the Master Puzzle.
  • 2 of 27: Phase 5 will be both the easiest and the most difficult phase you will face.
  • 3 of 27: This round will present you with only ONE alphabet letter on the Middle Totem; no other symbols or notation boxes will be shown.
  • 4 of 27: This letter will also be in YELLOW: play the note one time.
  • 5 of 27: So far, this is a piece of cake, right?
  • 6 of 27: The tricky part of this phase involves the fact that the letter shown is one you have never seen before.
  • 7 of 27: In fact, the note for this letter does not even exist in Thurston Last's world.
  • 8 of 27: Because it does not exist, there is no corresponding key for it on the keyboard.
  • 9 of 27: If there is no key for this note, how do you play it?  This is what you must figure out to solve the final round.
  • 10 of 27: Listen to what the Turnip Guy says as the middle Totem turns to face you.
  • 11 of 27: He says "If there were such a note, where might that note go?"
  • 12 of 27: You must figure out where this nonexistent note MIGHT be, if it were real.
  • 13 of 27: Well, we know that two letters of the alphabet were missing from the Wheel of Fortune.
  • 14 of 27: These "missing letters" do not correspond to musical symbols or keyboard notes; they simply do not "exist."
  • 15 of 27: From the Wheel, we know that these two nonexistent letters/notes are "M" and "R"; one of these letters will be presented to you in the final round.
  • 16 of 27: The goal of this round is to determine on the keyboard WHERE the nonexistent note would be located, if it did exist.
  • 17 of 27: Remember that the alphabet letters from the Wheel of Fortune were all listed in normal alphabetical order.
  • 18 of 27: Therefore, a good guess about the placement of the nonexistent note might be WHERE it would fit in terms of the other alphabet letters.
  • 19 of 27: "M" is found between L and N; "R" is found between Q and S.
  • 20 of 27: You must locate these "surrounding" keys on the keyboard and figure out a way to show the Turnip guy and the Totems that the missing note might fit in between them.
  • 21 of 27: When you get it right, you get a party in your honor.
  • 22 of 27: Solution below.
  • 23 of 27: Carefully align the pointing icon PRECISELY on the junction of the two "surrounding" keys on the keyboard (exactly where the two notes meet) and click-and-hold the mouse once.
  • 24 of 27: You should see BOTH the keys depress and hear both the notes play simultaneously.
  • 25 of 27: When you get it right, a big celebration with Salty, Isadora, and all the Muses will commence.
  • 26 of 27: Congratulations!  You won the game!
  • 27 of 27: For an amusing alternate ending, try building the Time Bomb instead of the Muse Machine.  Have Fun and Good luck!
