Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints

How do I finally trap and kill the mimic?

  • 1 of 14: First, you need to make it to the Hall of Gems.
  • 2 of 14: Once there, look around to see what all's going on.
  • 3 of 14: It seems that there are devices in the four corners of the area that create worthless piles of shiny gems and spit them out every now and then.
  • 4 of 14: The mimic loves eating those gems, so why not run around and grab up piles of them before it can?
  • 5 of 14: That in itself isn't very useful, since you can't starve the mimic.
  • 6 of 14: Check out the gadget at the center of the level.
  • 7 of 14: Hit the fire conductor's floor lever to test-fire it. That thing could certainly toast the mimic very nicely!
  • 8 of 14: Now how are you going to lure the mimic into the fire conductor's blast circle?
  • 9 of 14: It goes for piles of gems, so why not put a pile or two inside the circle?
  • 10 of 14: Stand inside the circle and right-click on a pile of gems in your inventory and choose to drop it.
  • 11 of 14: After placing one or two piles in the circle, it's helpful to drop another pile just outside the circle, and then another a little further on. That'll give the mimic a nice little line of gems to follow, ending inside the fire conductor's circle.
  • 12 of 14: Once the gems are placed, go stand next to the conductor's lever and wait for the mimic to enter the circle. The second it does, hit the lever to roast it like a marshmallow!
  • 13 of 14: NOTE: Scavenger rats may try to snatch the gem piles you've placed while you wait, so have a bow ready to shoot them with the moment they come within sight. (Or finish them all off before baiting the trap.)
  • 14 of 14: Don't forget to search the mimic's corpse to gain a few items, including the armor it stole from you and the Boots of Striding +10 (wearing those will *greatly* increase your hit point total).
