Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints

Is there any way to raise or eliminate the sell caps?

  • 1 of 6: Not legally. You'll have to "cheat" a bit, perhaps even doing a bit of file manipulation using Windows Explorer or some such program.
  • 2 of 6: You'd start out by using the game's built-in Aurora Toolset to load up whichever chapter of HoU you're wanting to edit. See the general tips section of the main NWN hint file if you need help figuring out how to do that.
  • 3 of 6: Once you have the chapter loaded, look under "areas" and load up each area one at a time that has a merchant you want to edit. Under each area, look at the "Merchants" list and edit the properties of each merchant you want to change.
  • 4 of 6: Besides unchecking "Has Maximum Buy Price," you can raise the "Buy Mark Down" value to get the merchants to pay more for things you sell them. (You can also check "Buys Stolen Goods" if you want to be able to unload trap kits on them.)
  • 5 of 6: When you're done editing, go to the "File" menu and choose "Save As" to save it as a user-created mod file in the Modules directory. You can then play it by starting a new game and going under "Other Modules."
  • 6 of 6: NOTE: If you'd rather "Save" the module instead, thereby overwriting the main game file with your changes, you may have to first use a file utility program to remove the "read-only" attribute from the .NWM files in the NWM directory under "Neverwinter Nights\NWN". This is very highly *not* recommended, and you should never try it without first making a backup of all the original .NWM files that you're replacing. (You can also forget about getting tech support from the game company if you do this.)
