Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints
How do I work the colored chain gimmick in the center of the area?
of 12: Looking around, you'll find that there are four pedestals with colored glowing light above them and one pool of colors in the center.
of 12: Trying the pool, you'll find that it doesn't do anything yet.
of 12: Maybe it will after you place all of the colored chains.
of 12: There are four chains total, just as there are four pedestals. You'll find each chain in the possession of a different individual, and there's one in each of the four regions of level 2. See the level 2 maps to find out where all the chains are.
of 12: To place a chain, click on a pedestal and then choose its chain's color from the list you're given. (Note that the game won't let you place a chain on an incorrect pedestal.)
of 12: Once all four chains are placed, save your game. If you fail to pull them in the right sequence, a monster will be gated in to attack you (though it'll probably be fairly weak and easy to kill).
of 12: To learn the sequence to pull the chains in, click on the color pool.
of 12: Watch carefully as the colors appear in sequence above the color pool.
of 12: There are six colors in the sequence, though it may not seem like it if one color appears two or more times in a row. For instance, if the sequence were red-green-yellow-yellow-yellow-purple, you might at first think it was only red-green-yellow-purple. However, remembering that there are always six colors in the sequence and that yellow was shown much longer than the others, you should be able to figure it out. (Also, the color display flashes every time it switches to the next color in the sequence, even if that next color is the same as its predecessor.)
of 12: Since the pool only shows the sequence once before expecting you to reproduce it, you should have a piece of paper handy so you can quickly write down the first letter of each color as it appears. In the above example, you'd end up with: RGYYYP.
of 12: After you get the sequence down, click on the pedestals in the order of the sequence. The instant you click on a wrong pedestal, a monster will be gated in and the puzzle will be reset. After killing the monster, use the color pool again to start over. (Note that it may show you the same color sequence again, and it may not.)
of 12: When you get an entire six-color sequence entered correctly, the chains will vanish and the door to the north will open.
