Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints
Notes and Extras
of 8: Besides the inn and the two shops, the Waterdeep outdoor area has a few buildings you can break into and loot. If you try a door and find that it's bolted from the other side, then forget about it. Otherwise, unlock or bash it.
of 8: The locked shop that's just west of Argali's Arms has a powerful longbow on a weapons rack called Longarm. Have it identified as soon as you can so that you can start using it.
of 8: Both shopkeepers pay quite a bit more for items than White Thesta in the inn does, so do your selling to them. (See my Merchant Tips.)
of 8: Both shops have displays that you can attempt to steal items from. Save before you try, since you only have one chance.
of 8: Argali Silth sells the three "Greater" belts that can make you very resistant to certain types of physical damage. If you don't have such belts already (in your stolen imported items, or whatever), be sure to buy one of each kind here or from Rizolvir in Chapter 2.
of 8: If you're an aspiring item crafter (see pages 79 thru 82 of the manual), talk to the blacksmith in Argali's Arms when she's not busy banging away to get a few crafting tips and to buy some materials.
of 8: There's lots of magical treasure to be found in the Undermountain, including +3 and +4 armor and weapons. Many of them are fairly easy to get to on level 1, so you might want to explore and loot at least a bit in the Undermountain before you decide what to buy from the shops. (It may be aggravating if, for example, you buy a Longsword +3 and then find one in an easy-to-reach treasure chest in the central part of level 1 of the Undermountain.)
of 8: Take the time to kill off all the rats in the Waterdeep outdoor area (and in all other areas that have such things). You'll be surprised at how much XP you get for such easy kills!
