Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints
General Notes
1 of 5: There are many secret doors in the Undermountain, as my area maps will show you. However, don't be discouraged if you can't find all of them. Some of them are a *lot* harder to spot than others, and many are unnecessary either because there are other ways to get to the areas they lead to or because they don't lead to anything interesting. (NOTE: Tomi has the highest Search skill, which is the most useful skill in detecting secret doors, so pick him up as soon as you can. Using Detect mode with him along will make most secret doors fairly easy to find, especially if you equip him with items that boost his Intelligence and Search skill.)
2 of 5: There are red circles of runes on the floor in various parts of level 1. Stepping inside these circles usually causes damage as with a regular trap. (Note that if treasure is lying within a circle, you can usually take it without damage if you stand on the edge of the circle nearest the treasure.)
3 of 5: When trying to bash stubborn chests and other bashable items, remember that weapons (including arrows) that do bonus elemental damage are often the only way to get the job done. Some items are just too tough for non-elemental weapons to ever damage them at all. Note that the drow dagger that you can get from the drow thief at the very beginning of the game will do until you get something better.
4 of 5: Several areas have spider web traps where there are webs hanging down from the ceiling, and your Reflex saving throw is checked as you pass under them. If you pass the check, nothing happens. If you fail it, several spiders will drop down from the ceiling a few at a time, ending with a queen spider.
5 of 5: Deekin has a very high Lore skill, so you might want him along to help identify all of the neat magic stuff you find in treasure. To do that, have the stuff you want identified in your inventory and talk to Deekin and ask him to identify your things. Then check your inventory to see how he did. You can do this with other henchmen, but they won't be nearly as good at it (though Sharwyn is fairly good).
