Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints

How can I kill this Vix'thra creature in the Hall of the Sacred One?

  • 1 of 12: Vix'thra (with or without the apostrophe) is a very powerful dracolich, and can furthermore respawn when killed just like all the other undead around here.
  • 2 of 12: The first thing to do is destroy Vix'thra's regen gimmick.
  • 3 of 12: There are several dead dracolich bodies around, but those are only regeneration points and can't be destroyed or sabotaged by you.
  • 4 of 12: Search around to the north of the main chamber.
  • 5 of 12: Past some vicious traps (which you can maneuver around if you're very careful or can bypass if you see a secret door) and a huge treasure hoard is a phylactery device.
  • 6 of 12: That must be it! Bash the phylactery to destroy it.
  • 7 of 12: Now kill Vix'thra to get the foul thing to stay dead.
  • 8 of 12: Once again, it's wise to use ranged attacks while your souped-up henchmen close to melee. If you badly need a break, try retreating back to the Inner Sanctum and healing up or setting a teleport point somewhere nearby and using the Relic of the Reaper to zap in and out. (For instance, try making a quick rush past Vix'thra and the traps and then use the relic to set a teleport point in the room with the phylactery. Then teleport out, heal, teleport back in, etc.)
  • 9 of 12: Another useful thing to do is wear something (like the Cowl of Warding) that makes you immune to mind-affecting spells. This is especially important if you plan to charge Vix'thra, since he can paralyze you almost constantly. Also, wear a Greater Swordsman's Belt (which you can buy from Rizolvir in Lith My'athar) to greatly cut down on the damage that Vix'thra's claws can do.
  • 10 of 12: Vix'thra's most powerful attack is, as with most dragons, his breath weapon. Vix'thra's breath does a huge amount of negative energy damage, so buff yourself against negative energy as much as you can. (Note that the Crystal of Undeath amulet that you could have gotten from the magical apparatus in the Inner Sanctum gives a negative energy resistance of 20.)
  • 11 of 12: And remember to have several Potions of Heal (which can be purchased from High Wizard Gulhrys in Lith My'athar) on the main quickbar for quick hit point restoration.
  • 12 of 12: If you just can't kill the beast, remember that you don't actually *have* to since freeing or killing the deva has already put a stop to the undead production. Also, you can always finish the other four main quests in the set and just let this one go entirely.
