How can I get the merchant in the town square to sell me anything?

  • 1 of 14: Ask to see his inventory.
  • 2 of 14: You'll quickly discover that this is not your average merchant.
  • 3 of 14: Have you asked around about the town's fate and why everyone is acting so peculiarly?
  • 4 of 14: It turns out that the merchant was very shrewd and prosperous before Shaori's Fell was pulled through the looking glass, so now he's just the opposite.
  • 5 of 14: He does have one item that you're going to need eventually.
  • 6 of 14: Since he's all turned-around, he wants you to trade him something of lesser value for it, and he doesn't think there's much that's of lesser value than a broken piece of glass.
  • 7 of 14: There are two ways to get the mirror shard from him.
  • 8 of 14: If your Bluff skill is high enough, you can bluff him into taking what you claim is a cursed gold coin in exchange for the shard. (Intimidate can also be used in the same way.)
  • 9 of 14: Otherwise, you'll have to trade him a burned book from the library that's just east of the town square.
  • 10 of 14: As it turns out, he's hidden the shard and can only give you a compass with which to find it.
  • 11 of 14: So use the compass' unique power and run around to find out where it starts pulsing.
  • 12 of 14: Try checking around the outside of the library building.
  • 13 of 14: When you're near the SE corner of the building, the compass should reveal a pile of garbage nearby that contains the mirror shard.
  • 14 of 14: NOTE: The compass is still useful after you get the shard. It can be sold for lots of gold (to a real merchant) or used for its Find Traps ability three times a day.
