Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints
How do I deal with the medusa in the library?
of 12: You could charge her and hope you and your henchmen can kill her before she petrifies anyone.
of 12: However, there is a better way. To learn of it, talk to Ulithar.
of 12: He says that some of the potion that allowed him to look at Quathala without turning to stone is still in their bedroom.
of 12: Before you go into the main library area, tell your henchmen to defend and only attack when you do. That way they won't kill Quathala or get themselves petrified.
of 12: Run into the library and quickly around south to the bedroom. Once you and your henchmen are inside, close the door.
of 12: Now you can relax and loot the place. Among other items, you'll find a bottle called "Potion of Sight Warding." Drink it to turn Quathala friendly so that you can go talk to her.
of 12: Do so to learn that she has one of the five mirror shards that you need, and that she'll let it go if you can answer a riddle. (You could try persuading her to hand it over, but this involves a tough Persuade skill check.)
of 12: When you're choosing an answer to a riddle, remember that this place is all opposite to reality.
of 12: Or just pick the answer from the given choices that doesn't belong in the set.
of 12: For instance, her first riddle asks for something that is burning, blazing, and always bright. Four of the choices are correct-sounding things like "fire" and "the sun," whereas the other choice is "mud."
of 12: Naturally, "mud" is the correct answer in this situation. If you miss it, you'll get a chance at another riddle that has the same sort of theme.
of 12: When you get a riddle answer right, Quathala will give you the mirror shard and let you leave peacefully.
