Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints

Is there any way to move peacefully through the illithid areas?

  • 1 of 7: Fortunately for weaker characters, yes. (And even if you're a super-tough fighter, there are advantages to doing things the peaceful way -- at least, at first!)
  • 2 of 7: When you first enter the entrance cavern from the "West of Lith My'athar" area, you'll encounter a group of duergar slavers. Whether you want to fight them or not, they'll decide to attack.
  • 3 of 7: One of them leaves a "remains" bag with some magic items, including a very special Helm of Shielding that protects its wearer from the mental probes of the illithids (though note that it doesn't actually make you immune to mind-affecting spells in battle).
  • 4 of 7: In order to move around Zorvak'Mur peacefully, you must wear the Helm of Shielding at all times. It doesn't matter if you have any other items that make you immune to mind-affecting spells -- the illithids only recognize and respect the Helm of Shielding.
  • 5 of 7: NOTE: If you've already done the Undead Cult region and have any bone golems that you reanimated left with you, they'll ruin everything here in Zorvak'Mur. Since you can't attack them yourself due to PvP settings, you'll have to take them somewhere where you can get them killed.
  • 6 of 7: After you pass through the illusory waterfall in the entrance cavern, go south past the group of mindless thralls to encounter an "illithid abysmal" near the entrance to the main Zorvak'Mur city area.
  • 7 of 7: The illithid will ask you what you're doing here. Simply tell him that you're here to buy thralls at auction, and refuse to take your protective Helm of Shielding off. Then you'll be able to enter Zorvak'Mur and enjoy the benefits of peaceful travel and trade.
