Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark Hints
Can I help to free any of the slave thralls?
of 9: Not in the entrance cavern, but there are a few things you can do in Zorvak'Mur.
of 9: One fairly safe thing to try is to buy the female thrall that's being auctioned off in the NE sector of the city. Talk to the mind flayer slave merchant to start the bidding.
of 9: Bidding aggressively, you should be able to get the slave for $3,000.
of 9: Once you've bought her, trick her into delivering a fake message for you to the Seer in Lith My'athar. The illithids will read her mind and think she's still a thrall doing a job, so they'll let her go. This gets you 1,000 XP and 10 points of good alignment (and you'll get more when you talk to the freed thrall in the Temple of Lolth later on).
of 9: The only other thing you can do is rather risky, and will get the illithids mad at you. You probably won't want to do it if you're hoping to strike a deal with the Elder Brain to abandon the Valsharess.
of 9: Enter the Thrall Pens area that's just past the slave auction platform and kill the duergar warden there to get his key.
of 9: Use the key to open the large room full of thralls and talk to the one named Argosus. (NOTE: Argosus and the others may be hostile for some unknown reason. If they are, you'll just have to kill or avoid them.)
of 9: Tell Argosus that you're setting the thralls free. You can attempt to bluff or intimidate him into waiting to make their break until after you've talked to the Elder Brain. However, even if you wait until after you've finalized the deal with the Elder Brain to talk to Argosus, the illithids will still back the Valsharess' drow allies up in the big battle later on. (But note that you can get tons of XP by first striking a deal with the Elder Brain and then inciting the thrall rebellion. The mind flayers and umber hulks that attack Lith My'athar during the finale aren't all that hard to defeat, anyway.)
of 9: NOTE: If you're unwilling to go through all that, you can still kill the warden and thoroughly loot the Thrall Pens area as long as you don't talk to Argosus.
