What can I get from the hermit?
1 of 4: Store services, for one thing. He has lots of neat magical stuff (except weapons). Mages will find lots of good spells here.
2 of 4: He has a magical recharging machine that he'll let you pay to use in recharging magic items.
3 of 4: He also buys dragon eggs and three of the four main quest artifacts (the dragon's tooth, the mask, and the mummified hand). Don't sell him these items through the usual shop display, but use the dialogue options you get regarding them.
4 of 4: And he'll teleport you to any major region you've already been to for $500. This isn't usually useful but can be a nice shortcut at certain times.
