Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide Hints

Excavated Ruins Notes and Extras

  • 1 of 7: There are three torches on the floor next to dead workers where you enter the ruins. Pick them up and ready them if you don't have an item or spell that projects light. These ruins are dark!
  • 2 of 7: There are several places in the ruins where rubble will rain down on you and cause some minor damage. For that reason (and all the slaadi), keep your health up at all times.
  • 3 of 7: The slaadi in the area, no matter what color they are, can do two very annoying things besides hit you with oversized boxing gloves. One thing is to emit a fearful howl that can stun you briefly. It really helps to be wearing an item that makes you immune to mind-affecting spells (immunity to fear doesn't help with this). If you don't have any such items, be sure to buy plenty of Potions of Clarity at the caravan and use them here.
  • 4 of 7: The other annoying slaadi trick is to teleport in a summoned red slaad. Like all summoned monsters, you get no XP for killing it, and it'll vanish no matter what its health is if you kill its summoner (which is what you should do whenever possible).
  • 5 of 7: Several rooms have big, long chains hanging down from the ceiling that you can click on to pull. Most of them will drop some rubble that you can search for treasure after the third pull. The only one with anything worthwhile is in the NW part of the ruins -- it drops a Belt of Hill Giant Strength.
  • 6 of 7: The only armor stand that's still active is in one of the north central rooms and has a valuable Netherese Axe you can take after you kill it.
  • 7 of 7: Near the SE corner of the long N/S corridor that runs up the center of the ruins, there's a rubble pile with a diamond in it. However, when you try to take it, a rat will snatch it and run away. You can either try to hit it with arrows or spells, or chase it with your sword while your henchman shoots at it. When it's dead, search its corpse to get your diamond back. (BUG NOTE: Before you try to take the diamond from the rubble, be sure to put any diamonds you have in your inventory into a magic bag or your henchman's inventory. If you don't, a glitch will cause you to lose those diamonds when the rat steals the one in the rubble.)
