Is there a way to kill the dragon and plunder his treasure?
1 of 3: Save your game and try it.
2 of 3: If you succeed, you'll get lots of XP plus loot off of the dragon's body and the three treasure chests that appear when he dies. (You'll also get the mask artifact and Tymo's head, which are useful on the main quests.)
3 of 3: Unless you're a level-20 import trying to prove you're the toughest thing since petrified bread, you'll want to use the Phylactery of Ice that you can get from J'Nah (see the "High Forest" region hints) to make yourself into a frost giant who's immune to the dragon's cold breath attack. (Besides, the phylactery can only be used in the presence of white dragons, so there's no point in saving it.)
