Neverwinter Nights Hints
Is there a way to view or edit the main game modules with the Aurora Toolset?
1 of 7: Yes, there is. Start by running the game and choosing "Toolset" instead of "Play" from the game launcher menu.
2 of 7: When the toolset program starts up and asks what you would like to do, choose "Start normally" and then click on "OK."
3 of 7: Then go to the "File" menu and choose "Open" to bring up the screen from which you can choose a module to load.
4 of 7: The open-file screen will let you click on the "Campaign Modules" option at the bottom and then choose which chapter you want to view/edit. (Note that only the currently unlocked chapter modules will be available, and the "Campaign Modules" button won't be available if none of the chapters are unlocked yet.)
5 of 7: Once a chapter's loaded, you can look at its areas, conversations, and scripts, each of which has a lot of stuff under it. It can take a lot of time and effort to find some particular thing you want to edit, and I have no space to give a detailed Toolset tutorial here. Just experiment around and see what you can do. (Also, read pages 157 thru 172 in the manual.)
6 of 7: If you change something and want to save the module, go to the "File" menu and use the "Save As" feature to save it as a .MOD file in the Modules directory (which is where all user-created mods go).
7 of 7: If you want to put your edited module in place of the main game module via the "File" menu's "Save" feature, you may have to first use a file utility program like Windows Explorer to remove the "read-only" attribute from all the .NWM files in the NWM directory. Doing this is *not* recommended, even if you wisely make a backup of all the .NWM files before editing them. (Note that the game company probably won't offer tech support if you monkey around with their original game modules.)
