How do I get into the Hold without using the front gate?

  • 1 of 8: Explore the small outdoor area for alternate entrances.
  • 2 of 8: The farmhouse isn't one of them, though you can raid it for an item or two.
  • 3 of 8: Look down a pathway that leads west from the farmhouse.
  • 4 of 8: You'll find a cave that leads down a short hallway (guarded by a guy with the macho-man name of "Jinkies") to the basement/prison of the Hold.
  • 5 of 8: Before you head up the stairs to the main floor, you can talk to the little boy Johnny for some info and to access a store with lots of +1 items for sale.
  • 6 of 8: NOTE: Keep all the really valuable items you have that you want to sell, since you can sell them soon in Chapter 2 to Alhelor in the Alliance Arms Inn for more money than you could get here.
  • 7 of 8: You can also go through the prison area and kill a bunch of zombies (and talk to the sole surviving true Helmite), but that's strictly optional fun.
  • 8 of 8: NOTE: In one of the northern prison cells is a "boss chest" with a super-tough lock on it. Only rogue characters with a very high Open Lock skill and some good thieves' tools will be able to pick it open (even Tomi can't do it). However, there's nothing ultra-special in the chest -- it's just the standard random "boss treasure" (like you've been getting and will continue to get in many other "boss chests").
