Neverwinter Nights Hints
Animal Rescue
of 17: Talk to Nyatar near the Great Tree to get this quest.
of 17: This is a class quest for druids and rangers, but other classes can get the quest by passing a persuade check.
of 17: Nyatar gives you a zoo key and a special magic scroll to help you infiltrate the Neverwinter Zoo and free four mistreated animals. (He'll also give you a "scented fetish" item if you're of a class that can't naturally speak to animals.)
of 17: So go to the zoo in the Blacklake District and get those poor abused animals freed!
of 17: Pay the 1 gold to enter the zoo, then make your way to the east end of the long E/W hallway that has views of the animal cages.
of 17: Going through the east door and heading north is forbidden to all zoo visitors, so an alert guard will start running toward a couple of guard barracks doors when he sees you.
of 17: Kill him before he opens them if you don't want to have to fight a bunch of other guards, too.
of 17: Head to the west end of the northern E/W corridor to find three important doors.
of 17: The west one leads outside to the grove area, where you need to approach the big tree and use the portal scroll that Nyatar gave you to activate a portal.
of 17: The north door leads to Montgomery "Sureshot" Weatherson and his guards. You don't have to kill Weatherson to avenge his crimes against all animal-kind, but why not if you can manage it?
of 17: The south door leads to the Master of the Pens, so go that way after you activate the tree teleporter.
of 17: Kill Mr. Master, then hit the big lever in his room to open the northern doors on all four of the animal cages.
of 17: Go through the south door in the lever room, and you'll be able to run along the hallway to each cage and tell the animal inside that it's free.
of 17: NOTE: If you block an animal's exit by standing in its way or closing its cage door from inside, you can talk to it and tell it that it's free more than once to get 19 XP every time. It's slow and tedious going, but you can build up a lot of XP with this gimmick if you persist. (Also, it hasn't ever been fixed, not even in the v1.62 patch.)
of 17: Once all four animals are outside in the grove, you'll have to go out there and tell each one of them individually to enter the nice swirly teleporter.
of 17: When they've all done that, the teleporter will disappear, but you can just use your Stone of Recall to return to the City Core.
of 17: Head back to the Great Tree and report success to Nyatar to get your reward.
