What's the pillar in the Haunted Forest for?

  • 1 of 14: It's for getting to the crypt entrance that's on the little "island" to the SE.
  • 2 of 14: If you haven't found the pillar yet, it's also near the SE corner of the area.
  • 3 of 14: First, loot the nearby corpse to find a useful book.
  • 4 of 14: Then click on the pillar.
  • 5 of 14: Using the book, you'll be able to translate the runes and enter a three-word phrase. But what phrase should you enter?
  • 6 of 14: The answer to that is on an old scroll in a chest.
  • 7 of 14: The chest is inside the small ruined building near the NW corner of the woods.
  • 8 of 14: Read the scroll, paying special attention to the words that are in ALL CAPS.
  • 9 of 14: They read: "NETHER SHALL RULE."
  • 10 of 14: Click on the pillar and choose "Nether," "shall," and "rule" to open a swirly yellow teleporter. Step into it to get to the crypt entrance. (To get back, use the yellow teleporter that's inside the crypt near where you enter it.)
  • 11 of 14: NOTE: If you enter an incorrect phrase, two skeletal warriors will appear and fight you. You could use this to build up some XP before you enter the correct phrase and get the teleporter.
  • 12 of 14: The crypt is strictly for fun and loot. It has no connection at all with Chapter 2's main plot line, or even an optional quest.
  • 13 of 14: If you do the crypt, be sure to shoot the tough undead through the barred doors before hitting the levers that are along side walkways.
  • 14 of 14: Also, after clearing out the big north room and disarming the trap on the chest, you might want to save your game before opening the chest and sarcophagus, since each one has very high-level random treasure in it.
