Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer Hints
A Nest of Thieves and Spies
of 15: You get this quest by finding the "nest" in the Shadow Mulsantir docks area. (See the Shadow Portal Info to learn how to get there.)
of 15: After entering the Shadow Mulsantir docks area, head north to come across the renegade camp.
of 15: They'll all attack as soon as you approach and talk briefly to them.
of 15: This is a *very* tough fight, so you'd better be well-rested and buffed up for it.
of 15: It's best to have your companions stand their ground near the shadow portal, then run back to them as soon as the combat begins. Hopefully, not all of the enemies will follow you there right away, allowing you to take them down a few at a time.
of 15: To keep from being level-drained, wear the Bone Dancer's Ring if you've gotten it from the "The Death God's Vault" quest. The Dragon Slippers from Shadow Mulsantir's northern section will likewise help keep you from being knocked down.
of 15: After they're all dead, loot their remains to find lots of gold, plus a Brown Dragon Shield and a letter that'll update the quest journal.
of 15: The letter says that Shelvedar Nuum (the merchant whose wagon was stuck just outside Mulsantir when you first arrived) is their spy within the city.
of 15: Nuum is now standing next to the bar in the Sloop, so go back through the shadow portal and confront him with what you've found.
of 15: After you tell Nuum about the letter, you'll have several choices as to what to do.
of 15: If you try to arrest him, or say you're taking the letter to the witches, or say that you're going to kill him as a spy, he and his two companions will turn hostile.
of 15: You can get a bit of XP for killing them, but you won't get anything from their remains, and you'll have to pay Zorah for damages. However, you can report him to Sheva Whitefeather in the Temple of the Three in the north part of town to get 3500 XP and the Triune Shield, which is a +7 heavy shield that makes you immune to disease and gives a spell resistance of 16.
of 15: There are two other ways of dealing with Nuum, but they aren't nearly as good since you don't get as much XP or the great shield.
of 15: If you demand cash from Nuum in exchange for tearing up the letter, you can get 3000 gold, 3250 XP, and six influence points with Gann.
of 15: The last option is to say that he's been a friend, and that you won't betray him to the witches. You'll get 3250 XP and six influence points with Kaelyn the Dove.
