1 of 3: Have all of your henchmen stand their ground a ways back from the door, then go open it and move far enough into the room beyond to start the hostilities.
2 of 3: Retreat and let your non-henchman companions deal with the brunt of the initial battle, watching for enemies to wander into your area.
3 of 3: When they stop coming, go play the lure-them-out game to see if you can get them to follow you to your henchmen a few at a time.
