Neverwinter Nights 2 Hints
How can I then destroy the mighty King of Shadows?
of 19: After Garius is dead, rest and heal up, loot the remains of Garius' followers, and visit statues to renew special abilities that you've used.
of 19: The King of Shadows will appear and start the final sequence of battles when you click on the portal in the center of the room. (Or if you just get too close to it.)
of 19: Your battle with this huge mega-boss will be in three phases.
of 19: In the first phase, he's just a big old beast to hack on. Use your ritual special abilities and then lay into him!
of 19: NOTE: The 9th-level cleric spell Undeath's Eternal Foe is very helpful in protecting you during these fights, though you shouldn't need it if you use the Soothing Light ability.
of 19: In the second phase, lots of miniature King of Shadows creatures will spawn around the five statues.
of 19: The main strategy here is to use the Web of Purity special ability to trap several minis at once, then use Cleansing Nova on one that's within the web effect in order to blast all of them.
of 19: Note that Web of Purity is the ritual ability that Ammon Jerro got from the fifth statue, so you'll have to coordinate with him. Have him cast Web of Purity, then switch to your main character to cast Cleansing Nova.
of 19: Keep doing that (and clicking on the related statues so you can use the abilities more than once) until the next phase starts.
of 19: The third phase is a true monster pain, and it has three phases in itself.
of 19: First, ignore the giant King of Shadows creature and run around bashing the five big ritual statues.
of 19: Every statue you destroy deprives the king of protection and a particular type of special attack.
of 19: TIP: Bash the Shining Shield statue first, since its related attack is by far the most devastating to you.
of 19: It can be hard getting everyone to bash the same statue at the same time. You can pause the game and switch to everyone in turn and order a bash on a statue, but several of them will probably run off to attack the giant King of Shadows, anyway. If so, just switch to them and give them another bash order.
of 19: Or you can have some people bash one statue while other people bash another. That would prevent too big a crowd at one statue, which is part of the reason some of them run off instead of bashing what you told them to.
of 19: The King of Shadows also draws power from the portal in the center of the room, so that's the next thing to bash after the statues are all rubble.
of 19: Since the Silver Sword of Gith is the only thing that can damage the portal, have whichever character is using that sword attack the portal while everyone else either attacks the King of Shadows or stays out of the way.
of 19: NOTE: It can be incredibly hard to find an interactive part of the portal to click on. Run up near the portal, pause the game, and carefully scan it with the cursor. (Rotating your view might or might not help.)
of 19: Once the portal is bashed, have everyone lay into the king with all they've got. When he goes down this time, it's all over!
