The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
How can I get through this area and find all the lost souls?
1 of 15: First off, note that all of the souls you're after are standing near huge bonfires that put off lots of smoke that you can see from a fair distance. Keep an eye out for those fires, since they're a lot easier to spot than the souls are. (Also, you can make this quest active so that each soul is marked with a green quest arrow on the local area map.)
2 of 15: From where you start, head north and west until you come to a spot where you can turn SW.
3 of 15: Move along that way until you come across Ilvel Romayn's soul standing next to a small tower called Blood Well.
4 of 15: Click on the soul to free it, then optionally go into Blood Well and ride up its "corpse masher" and go up some curving ramps to reach some devices that will restore your health and magicka.
5 of 15: Go back the way you came and head north down a path branch that you skipped by before.
6 of 15: When the path curves right (north), you'll quickly come to where Er-Teeus' soul is standing near a door to the Sightless Grotto.
7 of 15: After freeing him, enter the grotto and make your way through to the exit at its other end.
8 of 15: Once you're back outside, head NE and along the long and twisting path until you find Kewan's soul near another large fire.
9 of 15: Continue to the east until the path turns south. There's another entrance to the Sightless Grotto nearby, but skip it and move on along the path.
10 of 15: Keep going south until the path splits off to the west, and then continue SE. (The west split will be used later.)
11 of 15: Follow the path to its end, where you'll find Mirie's soul next to another large fire.
12 of 15: Go back the way you came, looking for a spot just east of the path where you can cross the lava using large rocks as stepping stones. (Note that this is just a bit east and south of the western path split that we skipped by earlier.)
13 of 15: After going across the stepping stones and over a huge boulder, turn left to quickly come to the final soul in the series: Maren the Seal.
14 of 15: After freeing her, go back across the stepping stones and get back on the path, going down the western path split that was skipped before.
15 of 15: That western path will take you directly to the portal that you can click on to return to the shrine area. (Note that you can find the portal via quest arrow if you get lost.)
