The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Make Lots of Money

  • 1 of 10: Lots of good general tips are in the Money-Making Tips section. Below, I'll list and elaborate on the ones I recommend for now.
  • 2 of 10: If you haven't already, start buying and stealing all the ingredients you can and making cheap potions to sell.
  • 3 of 10: You'll also want to steal a lot of stuff and store it in a grain bag, then at some point join the Thieves Guild so you'll have access to the bartering services of Ongar in Bruma.
  • 4 of 10: Once you have a full inventory load of stolen goods, travel to Bruma and sell it all to Ongar.
  • 5 of 10: Then go around and start robbing places in Bruma, using your pumped-up Sneak skill to get away with it. You can buy lockpicks from Ongar if you need them.
  • 6 of 10: NOTE: The grain sack in Ongar's house is a very convenient place to store items temporarily. Just don't let him see you take anything out of it.
  • 7 of 10: At some point, go to Bruma's castle barracks area and see if you're good enough at sneaking to pickpocket equipment from sleeping guards. If not, go somewhere to practice your Sneak skill (like the barracks' darkest corner), then try again.
  • 8 of 10: You should also join the Mages Guild here and loot the place of legal goods to sell to regular merchants (but watch out for a few items that would count as stolen).
  • 9 of 10: And while you're here, you might as well buy an empty grand soul gem from Selena Orania and do Jeanne Frasoric's easy recommendation quest.
  • 10 of 10: Try to make at least 10,000 gold before you return to the Imperial City, though 5,000 or so is all you really need.
